Vlassenroot, world leader in critical components of telescopic cranes, started a productivity project in Groot-Bijgaarden together with Vocum. The man-hours on most folding benches were halved and the target of €952,890 on an annual basis was achieved.

Vlassenroot is the world leader in the production of the most critical components of telescopic cranes: crane arms, turntables and chassis for mobile cranes.
To increase the profitability of our site in Groot-Bijgaarden, we started a productivity project together with Vocum.
During this project, we structurally changed several things together with Vocum. Below are some of these points:
- On most folding benches, we managed to halve the man-hours by working more efficiently.
- One operator is now able to operate two laser machines instead of one, resulting in more output per hour worked, without loss of quality.
- A skills programme was developed and implemented, so that the quality and flexibility of the operators improved significantly.
- Interchangeability between the technical service, lasers, folding benches, quality and logistics departments was greatly increased, which also benefits productivity.
- A set of follow-up tools was developed so that the first-line managers are better able to steer on the floor and report during a daily meeting based on facts and figures.
The points above, together with continuous guidance from the Vocum team, enabled us to achieve the target of €952,890 — a 30% productivity increase — on an annual basis (a four-weekly average of €18,325). This corresponds to an ROI of 2:1.
We are very pleased with the way Vocum brought the project to a successful conclusion, and partly because of this result we have decided to start at our three other production sites as well (one in Poland and two in Germany), together with Vocum.
